Introducing FS Italian Tourist Trains
The new company was presented during an event in Naples, at the National Railway Museum of Pietrarsa. A historic train from Rome Termini transported guests and journalists to the event, highlighting the importance of railways in the history and future of Italian tourism.
The Goal of the New Company
The goal of FS TTI is to offer a diversified range of railway services, designed and tailored for high-quality, sustainable, and conscious tourism. The intent is to rediscover the beauties and riches of the Italian territory, both well-known and lesser-known, making train travel a crucial element of the overall tourist experience.
The Structure of FS Italian Tourist Trains
The new company will be part of the Passenger Division of the FS Italiane Group, working in synergy with the various Business Units of Trenitalia, including High Speed, Intercity, and Regional. FS TTI is led by Luigi Cantamessa, with Alessandro Vannini Scatoli as chairman.
FS TTI will acquire assets and rolling stock from Trenitalia’s commercial fleet, which, after modernization, will form a fleet of Italian trains specifically designed for tourists. Additionally, the company will have dedicated staff, including drivers, conductors, and maintenance personnel, trained according to the latest tourism standards.
The Offer of FS Italian Tourist Trains
FS TTI’s offer is divided into three main services: luxury, express and historic trains, and regional omnibus.
Luxury
The luxury service is dedicated to elite tourism, offering luxury services with prestigious trains, such as the Orient Express – La Dolce Vita, an Italian luxury train planned for 2024, and the famous Venice Simplon Orient Express by Belmond, already operating on European routes.
Express and Historic Trains
The Express and Historic Trains service offers a new and different travel experience. The trains, slow and gently guided to their destination, will offer new connections between major Italian cities and tourist destinations of interest. These trains will be composed of carriages from the 1980s and 1990s, completely renovated and adapted for tourism at the railway workshops in Rimini.
Regional Omnibus
Finally, the Regional Omnibus service will be the affordable option offering popular prices. These services will ensure the operation of regional trains on weekends, on routes crossing territories rich in history, culture and natural beauty.
Truly Sustainable Tourism
FS Italian Tourist Trains responds to the growing demand for railway tourism in Italy and aims to promote a truly sustainable tourism, allowing access to both well-known and lesser-known destinations, off the classic tourist circuits. By 2030, the number of travelers worldwide is expected to reach 2 billion. Of these, a significant number will choose Italy as their destination, with particularly strong growth expected from Asia.
