Exploring the Magical Pink Granite Coast: A Journey into the Incredible Beauty of Brittany

In the heart of Côtes d’Armor, in one of Brittany’s most fascinating corners, lies the Pink Granite Coast: the rock along this stretch of sea is characterized by an incredible pink hue and appears to you in often bizarre and extravagant shapes, alternating with lush green coves and lively seaside resorts. The pink color of the granite is due to a particular mixture of quartz, mica, feldspar, and iron oxide. After oxidation at a temperature of about 800 °C, the granite turns pink. This is a rare phenomenon that has occurred only in Brittany, Corsica, and China.

Discovering the Pink Wonder

The Pink Granite Coast stretches for about 16 km from the town of Trébeurden to Perros-Guirec, crossing 4 municipalities including Trébeurden, Pleumeur-Bodou, Trégastel, and Perros-Guirec. Each town has its own slice of paradise worth exploring. Perros-Guirec, nestled on a stunning rocky peninsula, is certainly the most famous and sought-after location in Côtes d’Armor. One of the most photographed views is the colorful display of striped windbreak tents that enliven its beaches.

An Authentic and Fulfilling Experience

Unfortunately, in the summer months, the seaside town suffers from crowds and congestion of tourists who have chosen to spend their beach holidays along this stretch of coast. Plage de Testraou is recommended for those who enjoy a lively atmosphere with cafes, hotels, and casinos, while those who prefer more secluded spots can choose Trestignel and Plage de Saint-Guirec.

The Charm of Sunset

The beauty of this area is breathtaking: the coast, walkable on foot, is dotted with huge pink granite rock formations. A truly magical panorama, especially at sunset.
