A “Green Way” to Discover Lake Como

Among the favorite panoramic routes for Lombards is definitely the walk around Lake Como, or Lario. This is the “Green Way,” a roughly 10-kilometer walk perfect for those wanting to discover views of Lake Como from the towns that surround it.

It is a path that runs along the western shore of the Lombard lake, crossing 7 villages from Colonno to Cadenabbia. And not just natural views: each of these places has its own history and historic centers, featuring ancient churches throughout the towns. Some are true children’s trails, like the Sentiero dei Proverbi.

A Scenic Walk in Lombardy to the Refuge on Monte Bolettone

Walking on Monte Bolettone offers a more nature-focused experience compared to the previous one. The idea is to take the trail from Albavilla, Lecco, up to the summit. Along the roughly one-hour walk, you can enjoy the nature of Alta Brianza, with trees like beeches and larches, and at the top, a view of the Alps and Lake Lario.

Not only that: all the villages in the area are included in the panorama, with the only “cost” being a fairly gentle climb. At the summit, there is also a refuge where you can rest and refresh yourself after the effort before heading back.

Between Views and Local Dishes: Montecampione

In the Brescia area, specifically in Val Camonica, you can have an equally fascinating experience from a landscape perspective, which also includes a food and wine aspect.

This refers to the easy trail that goes from the homes of Montecampione up to the Rifugio Il Bait. There, you can enjoy traditional dishes while taking in the panoramic views of the mountains and the surrounding area.

Alternatively, if you prefer a greener but well-marked route, you can choose the Grand Tour of Montecampione trail. It’s a little over seven kilometers, circling the village and offering a chance to breathe fresh air and enjoy the surrounding scenery.

An Experience for All Ages Discovering the Archosaurs

Also in Brescia, the ancient Valeriana Road is a cobbled path full of surprises. Chief among them is the chance to discover, in the town of Zone, the paleontological site featuring footprints of archosaurs. These animals were the ancestors of dinosaurs, making the natural experience even more fascinating for adults and children alike.

Overall, the route is quite long, about 24 kilometers, so many choose to split it into stages or shorten it by selecting only certain sections. It runs from Pilzone d’Iseo to Pisogne, passing through medieval villages (like Vesto, Massenzano, and Tassano) and landscapes alike, including a first stretch alongside Lake Iseo.

From a panoramic perspective, you can find various views of the surrounding valleys and more. From the medieval villages, you can see the Montecolo peninsula and Monte Isola.

The Tracciolino Trail on the “Decauville”

The Tracciolino is a very special trail as it follows the route of the old railway called Decauville, which connected the dams of Codera and Val di Ratt.

It’s an experience full of charm, offering views over the Lower Valchiavenna and Pian di Spagna, and the chance to walk through a railway tunnel on foot. For this reason, it’s also recommended for families with children, although some sections are a bit more challenging.
