Weekend itinerary in Strasbourg, Colmar and Lucerne 10/12/ 16
6:00 AM: still a bit sleepy, we leave Verona heading for Strasbourg!
There's no denying it: the journey on the road is priceless if you really want to appreciate the gradual transformation of the landscape.
After some well-deserved stops in Switzerland and southern France, we reach the Alsatian capital shortly after lunchtime .
The Christmas season
Welcomes us with a delightful festive atmosphere: lavish buildings barely visible through thousands of festive lights, countless spectacular decorations hanging on the walls of shops, hotels and homes.
A fairytale landscape framed by the Ill River, with romantic half-timbered houses, elegant wine bars and picturesque quays reflecting on the water, creating magnificent plays of light and color.
We stay overnight in a typical chalet surrounded by the Vosges mountain range: warmly welcomed by the young owner Thibaut.
After a creative dinner with good company and lots of laughter, we fall asleep, tired from the day but curious about what the next day will bring.
In the morning, after a good breakfast, we set off for Colmar.
Fortunately, we arrive in town before 10 AM, the opening time of the Christmas markets.
We enjoy the beauty of the still-empty town, happily wandering its decorated streets that gradually come alive with music, shopkeepers and the first travelers.
We look for the famous “Little Venice”, and when we finally find it, we are captivated by the charm of the typical, colorful timbered houses that make some views look like impressionist paintings.
Around lunchtime, the streets become increasingly crowded: after a warm lunch, we set off again, heading towards Switzerland.
We arrive in Lucerne
Lucerne is magnificent: we enter the city via the modern bridge from which the vastness of the lake nestled among snow-capped mountains gradually unfolds before our eyes..
The city is divided into two parts by the Reuss River, crossed by the picturesque 14th-century wooden bridge.
We enjoy the perfect light of the slightly cloudy day for a few hours, capturing shots of the river, the lights and the colorful chairs of the cafes along its banks.
One last look at the rosy sunset sky reflected on the lake is our farewell to this little gem of the German-speaking canton.
What can we say: an unforgettable weekendspent with good friends and seasoned with great food.
We can't wait to set off again!
