What to Do During a Bus Trip: 5 +1 Tips for a Long Journey

Nowadays, we're used to having everything instantly, but when it comes to traveling, we still have to face long journeys and waits. Unfortunately, teleportation hasn’t been invented yet, so we always need to find ways to pass the time while waiting to reach our destination. In this article, we want to give you some tips on what to do during a bus trip, which also work well for other means of transport like planes. Let’s dive in!

Sleep

They say the journey itself is a pleasure, even before reaching the destination, but that’s not true for everyone. Many people hate waiting or suffer from motion sickness, and for them, the trip is more of a real ordeal!

The only thing to do in these cases is to sleep, completely switch off, and take your mind off it hoping the journey ends soon.!

The bus isn’t exactly the most comfortable place to sleep, although modern coaches like Flixbus are equipped with all possible comforts. So let’s make the best of it with some simple tips to help make your trip more pleasant.

On the bus, get as comfortable as you can without ever losing sight of your backpack or bag. Bring a travel pillow for extra comfort and neck support, so you don’t wake up all stiff. And if light, voices, or music bother you, don’t forget to bring an eye mask and earplugs!

Don’t Scroll

Time is precious, and even if a long journey seems to steal it from us, it’s important to make the most of it. The phone is no longer just for calls or messages; it fills our day in many ways. So during the trip, let’s make the most of what it offers.

Don’t connect to Wi-Fi immediately upon boarding, and avoid aimless compulsive scrolling through apps and social media—it will only tire you out unnecessarily.

If you want to use your smartphone, don’t forget to bring a power bankso you don’t end up with a dead battery. Use it to do something active, like reading the latest news or playing games that don’t just pass the time but keep your mind engaged.

Watch TV Series

Another idea is to watch TV series on your smartphone, computer, or tablet. We now have many streaming services and an endless selection of movies and series to choose from.

Estimate the length of your trip and maybe pick a series to binge-watch so you won’t have to stop at a cliffhanger when you arrive!

Read Books

Often during the day, it’s hard to find free moments to dedicate to your passions. A key tip is to use travel time wisely and take the opportunity to read a good book.

Always carry one in your bag—not a massive tome, but something smaller and enjoyable, perhaps full of suspense and that keeps you on the edge of your seat.Time will fly by without you even noticing, and you’ll forever associate the memories of your trip with the book you read!

Listen to Music and Podcasts

Music is every traveler’s faithful companion. To make the journey more enjoyable and unforgettable, bring headphones and listen to your favorite tracks. Relax, take in the scenery outside the window, and watch the road unfold before you… there’s nothing more pleasant!

A bus trip is also the perfect opportunity to listen to podcasts. Often we have to give up this form of entertainment because we don’t have the time to fully focus on the narration.

Socialize with Fellow Passengers

Bus trips are ideal situations to make new friends. If you’re traveling alone and the previous tips bore or tire you after a while, you could strike up a conversation with the person sitting next to you.

If you’re on a group trip, know that travel time is the best moment to get to know and bond with other travelers.

In either case, don’t be afraid to take the first step. You can break the ice with simple, natural questions like where they’re headed or where they’re coming from. You can share drinks or snacks or maybe involve others in a group game..

And if you get along well with your travel companions, exchange phone numbers to stay in touch and maybe meet again on a future trip!
