All our lives we've been told that staying fit is both a duty and a sacrifice. Well, we believe that taking care of your mental and physical well-being is not only simple but also fun and rewarding.

Of course, it can be tough to do in winter when we're busy and it's cold and dark early, just as it can be in summer when the temperatures get too hot to do much. But we have some tips for you: a basic guide on how to take care of yourself easily and naturally!

Let's talk about how to create healthier, more sustainable habits so that living an active lifestyle becomes second nature rather than an unpleasant effort. Seven tips to stay active, healthy, and happy, exercising while still having time for the things you love in life.

Keep a Journal

Keeping a daily food diary will help you keep track of what and how much you're eating and be more disciplined in following the rules. At first, it may seem tedious, but it will help you develop good habits more easily and, therefore, stay in shape with less stress and in a less haphazard way.

Following a healthy and balanced dietdoes require some method. First of all, make sure your diet is rich in fiber. Fiber helps you stay full and regular. Then, try not to skip breakfast (or other meals) because it's important for metabolism and energy levels.

Be careful with mild phases: it's not true that eating less always leads to weight loss! Favor foods rich in protein and variety but don't eliminate carbohydrates: instead, choose low glycemic index cereals, like basmati rice or spelt. And remember not to overdo sugar and salt, while “good” fats, like those found in nuts and avocado, are true allies of your well-being and your fitness.

Weight Loss Isn't Everything

Watch out for weight loss: staying healthy is a daily commitment. Our body shouldn't be treated like an accordion or a yo-yo, because losing body fat isn't necessarily a sign of good health.

Every day the body tries to achieve physical fitness through activity and diet. But be careful: don't obsess over the scale, weighing yourself every day of the week, because it's only one of the parameters to consider. Avoiding mere weight loss through regular physical activity will help maintain fitness sustainably over time.

Doing sports (any physical activity is suitable) is as important as eating well to stay fit in the long run.

Drink Plenty of Water

It may seem obvious but it isn't: many people forget to drink enough water to keep their bodies hydrated. Drink water throughout the day, at least one and a half liters. Besides flushing out toxins that can cause weight gain and reducing water retention, it will help your skin stay youthful and benefit all your tissues.

Some tasty tips to reach proper hydration? Eat fruits like melon, watermelon, pineapple, and vegetables like cucumber, which are rich in water and fiber.

Set Realistic Goals

To stay fit, we need achievable goals tailored to our own body, not someone else's. If you haven't exercised in a long time, avoid starting with excessive resolutions. Add a little more gradually, like walking 10 more minutes each day or doing one extra movement per workout session.

Put your phone away during workouts so it doesn't distract you from your fitness routine. Exercising regularly, like hiking in the mountains or jogging, will become much more enjoyable and effective if you clear your mind of other thoughts. Plus, exercise releases endorphins that boost mood and fight stress: what more could you want?

Follow a Workout Program

To feel good, as mentioned, it's necessary to maintain an active lifestyle. Beyond advice on what and how much to eat, doing sports is essential not only to lose excess weight and burn calories after meals but also to stay in the psychophysical condition we've described.

A healthy lifestyle is determined by the food you eat and the exercises you choose to do. You don't need to join a gym, eat only protein-rich foods, or count calories at every meal. Fitness is a result to achieve and maintain with consistency.

Just dedicate yourself to exercise three times a week, either after work in the evening or in the morning. Starting with 10-20 minutes of continuous activity is enough. If you already practice a sport, you're certainly ahead: it's healthy to keep this habit. To improve fitness without a personal trainer, which usually requires going to a gym, and maintain adequate muscle mass (i.e., increase lean mass at the expense of fat mass), try following one of the many online programs to stay fit. Discover sports like aerobic exercise as an alternative to lifting small weights that engage all muscles, from arms to glutes: this allows you to keep eating foods without too many sacrifices and helps change your basal metabolism.

Set a daily exercise routine: a few rules and some initial sacrifice (often the hardest part is just getting started) and then you won't be able to do without it!

Get Plenty of Good Sleep Every Night

Time is always too short, we know. But it's important to make sure your body has the chance to rest and recover from any exercise routine. Getting the right amount of sleep every night is crucial: it should never be less than six hours. Not only the hours before bedtime matter but also the time spent in deep REM sleep during the night.

Moreover, people often talk about quantity but neglect sleep quality: rest is achieved through proper sleep hygiene. It's helpful to reduce substances like nicotine, caffeine, and alcohol during the day and avoid them entirely in the 3-4 hours before going to bed.

Join a Group

Staying healthy is a full-time job and is harder to do alone. Training alone can be tough when faced with laziness or other temptations. So it's easier to stick to your workout routine when you have someone encouraging you. Fortunately, there are many ways we can stay fit and find friends who are on a similar fitness journey: for example, joining group treks and organized hikes!

The important thing is to join a community group where you can socialize with others who are also trying to stay fit. Because a fundamental part of staying fit involves our mood and psychological well-being: the body is not independent!
